What Are Confined Spaces?
Confined Spaces are found in work places and are considered such because, while they are not necessarily designed for people, they are large enough for workers to enter to perform certain jobs. They have limited means for entry or exit and are not designed for continuous occupancy. Examples of confined spaces include tanks, vessels, silos, vaults, pits, manholes, and tunnels. Oftentimes, these confined spaces can be dangerous. Hazards related to Confined Spaces include asphyxiation, engulfment, entrapment, toxic substances, flammable atmospheres, oxygen deficient and oxygen enriched atmospheres.
Keeping Workers Safe
Confined Spaces are regulated by OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.146, which provides step-by-step guidance to employers on how to regulate confined space in order to keep working conditions free of known dangers. OSHA confined space entry standards require companies and public agencies to implement a confined space entry program for all employees who need to enter permit-required confined spaces. This program requires each company to provide training for all employees involved in confined space entry work. Creation World Safety provides this training according to OSHA standards.
