Firewatch/Holewatch Training

workplace safetyAt Creation World Safety, our number one priority is to provide you with all the knowledge, resources, and training you need to do your job safely and effectively. And while it’s critically important that a technician working in hazardous areas is trained to OSHA standards, many people forget that they don’t have to do it alone. That’s why for this blog, we’re going to talk a little bit about training for a firewatch/holewatch – what we call a “safety person in the field” – and why it’s so important.

Safety Persons in the Field

Whenever someone is working with welding equipment in a confined space or an area with potential fire hazards, it’s absolutely crucial that the welder have a wealth of safety training and knowledge to correctly operate their equipment. But what many people overlook is how important it is that they have back up – someone to watch them who’s been trained as a firewatch or holewatch. The watch checks to ensure the environment is safe, that all procedures are being followed, and they can call for help in case of an emergency. Having a holewatch who is trained to OSHA standards is a necessary part of ensuring the safety of employees in dangerous work environments.

Firewatch Safety Training

At Creation World Safety, we make it easy to properly train fire and hole watches pursuant to OSHA standards. Our certified training guides provide instruction on a variety of key points in fire and confined space safety:

  • Making sure proper safety guards are in place
  • Ensuring proper ventilation of confined spaces
  • Checking extinguishers
  • Ensuring proper protective equipment
  • Clearing out combustible materials
  • Marking exits
  • First aid kits
