OSHA®

Created by congress in 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is an agency of the United States Department of Labor. The mission of OSHA is to “assure the safety and health of America’s workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.” Similarly to OSHA, Creation World Safety’s mission is to provide businesses with the most up-to-date curriculum in safety training and create a safer healthier work environment.

Who Does OSHA Cover?

OSHA works to protect almost all private and some public sector employees in the United States. In states where OSHA doesn’t operate, an equivalent version of OSHA is held up to the same standards. While some form of OSHA is in every state, it does not cover every working person in the United States. Some people OSHA does not cover are:

  • Self-employed workers.
  • Families of farm employers that don’t employ workers outside the family.
  • Employees of state and local governments

How Does OSHA Enforce Standards?

OSHA enforces their safety standards through various projects including employee safety training, whistleblower programs, and direct enforcement. OSHA safety training is designed to educate employees on the hazards in their workplace. Creation World Safety facilitates some of these employee training programs like the OSHA 10 and OSHA 30. Another form of enforcement OSHA uses is whistleblowing, a way to anonymously report poor safety conditions to be inspected by an OSHA safety inspector. When a safety violation is found, OSHA takes it seriously and tends to come down hard on the offending employer.
