22 Mar OSHA Safety Certification in Torrance, CA
OSHA safety inspections are a concern for companies, employers, and employees at any job site. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration perform these routine checks to monitor the working conditions and enforce safety standards on a job site. Creation World Safety provides companies and their employees with the safety training and certification necessary to pass OSHA inspections in Torrance, CA. Here’s what to expect during, and how to prepare for an OSHA audit.
Advanced Notice is Not Likely
Before conducting an inspection, OSHA researches the company thoroughly, becoming familiar with every safety aspect they will inspect and gathering the necessary PPE and testing equipment, but they rarely give the company advanced notice of their arrival. The advanced notice usually only occurs when:
- The conditions of the worksite pose an imminent danger that must be corrected immediately.
- If the inspection will occur outside of business hours or at a time when a manager is not likely to be present.
- If advance notice will allow for a more complete inspection.
It is purposeful that advance notice is not given, as the auditors want to see the honest picture of daily worksite operations. It is also possible for an employer to voluntarily request an OSHA audit.
Credentials
Upon arrival, the OSHA Compliance Officer must present the proper credentials, including a photo ID and serial number.
Conferences and Walk-Around
The inspection is divided into three parts:
- During the Opening Conference, the inspector will explain why the worksite is being audited and what the sequence of events will be, including employee interviews.
- A Walk-Around then takes place where the compliance officer and an employer representative (such as a manager) will walk through each section of the workplace accompanied by an employee representative knowledgeable about that part of the Jobsite.
- The final Closing Conference will summarize the compliance officer’s findings, and explain the necessary follow-up actions for the employer to take, to appeal, accept, or contest any proposed penalties.
Results and Re-Inspection
Violations of OSHA Standards are subject to citations and fines. The violations and penalties will be listed, along with a deadline for addressing the hazard. The chance of re-inspection is increased if the violations are serious.
